Nothing changed modern warfare more than the World War II Aircraft carrier. The carrier made the battleships obsolete with battles now being waged from hundreds of miles away rather than a few hundred yards. Most of the later battles of WWII were fought from the deck of the carries, never letting the enemy get within firing distance.
